Quality Notions |
Buying
the best quality notions will make your finished
project look its best. We have listed to resources
of the companies we like best in our links section.
If you're in business for yourself, you may find
buying notions in bulk will save you time and money.
Seam binding, pins, buttons and lace are all
excellent candidates for a bulk purchase. Map out
your projects in advance to determine what your
needs will be. Look for sales, save sales coupons,
and make sure you're on the mailing lists of stores
where you like to buy notions. Also, check the
internet and auction sites for excellent deals on
lot purchases.
Buy good quality, sharp pins to protect your fabric.
Most pin cushions come with a tip sharpener, which
will make your pins last longer. Before you buy,
peek through the packaging and make sure there are
no bent pins, or badly formed pins. Store your pins
by size and type on pin cushions and in organizers.
Have ready some storage options for when you bring
your notions home. Keep them organized, and
protected. When you buy bulk lace and binding, you
may want to keep track of how much you use for each
project. This will also give you a head's up to know
when to re-order.
Buying seam binding in single-packs is good for
small projects. Stick with name brands, and always
pre-shrink before you apply to your project.
Hook-eyes and snap sets should be looked over to
ensure there is a match for each. Look for bent ends
on hook-eyes. Note that there are several sizes, so
pick the best one that works for your project. You
will have to hand sew them, so if you have a lot to
sew, consider buying strips of fasteners. If your
project works to accommodate strips, they will save
you time and energy. |
